Exodus

CF Johnny Damon signed with the New York Yankees late Tuesday night. The deal is reported to be 4 years, 52 million. Why did Damon not resign with the Red Sox? Did the Red Sox match the Yankees offer?

Almost as stunning as Damon's decision to sign with Boston's storied archrival was that the Red Sox did not learn of Damon's decision until they were contacted by reporters last night. Boston Globe

Could it be that Damon saw the Red Sox in chaos? Sounds like the new co-GM's have some explaining to do. A Red Sox press conference is scheduled for 2pm.

"There's no way I can go play for the Yankees, but I know they're going to come after me hard," he said on May 3. "It's definitely not the most important thing to go out there for the top dollar, which the Yankees are going to offer me. It's not what I need."

Nice Johnny.
